On Jan. 7, Hanoi police arrested Hoang Thi Hong Thai, aka "Hồng Thái Hoàng", on charges of "spreading propaganda against the state". Authorities accused her of posting anti-state content on Facebook, according to Tuoi Tre, though they have not specified which of her posts are anti-state. Hong Thai was summoned by police on April 23, 2025, and placed under a travel ban for Facebook posts. In one of the last posts before her arrest, published on Jan, 6, 2026, she criticized concentrated power, saying (English translation of original Vietnamese): 'In a society where the executive branch holds overwhelmingly too much power; the police investigate, prosecute, and punish all by themselves; and ordinary people fear the police more than they fear criminals—that very structure is already a major obstacle to development, not a driving force behind it'.
