Ho Chi Minh City police, in collaboration with Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provincial police, arrested Tran Nhu Phuoc and Ngo Son Ha under Article 331. They were accused of posting false claims on TikTok that Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, former Director of Ho Chi Minh City police, protected a large-scale gambling and fraud ring. The claims were reportedly initiated by Nguyen Phuong Hang, former political prisoner and CEO of Đại Nam Company.
Nam began pre-retirement leave on June 1, 2025, with no public explanation for his early retirement. Major General Mai Hoang, who is from To Lam's home of Hung Yen province, succeeded him in a discreet ceremony, unreported by state media. Following their arrests, the TikTok accounts of Tran Nhu Phuoc and Ngo Son Ha appear to have been wiped.
