On August 28, 2024, police in Mai Son district, Son La provvince arrested Le Vu Dai for "abusing democratic freedoms" under Article 331 of the criminal code—a provision widely used to criminalize free expression.
According to state media, from September 2020 to August 2024, Le Vu Dai made more than 50 posts on his Facebook, many of which are alleged to contain malicious content against the Party and State and slandering efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Project88 reviewed the Facebook account in question, Quang Huy. The account had less than 400 followers and appeared to share personal opinions patriotism, sovereignty and anti-corruption.
